COVID-19 updates

 

Travel and contact history are no longer important for diagnosis, which is on the basis of symptoms alone.

  • A new continuous cough

and/or

  •  A high temperature (37.8 degrees centigrade or higher)

Testing will not be offered routinely to individuals staying at home

Surgery updates

 

We are open as usual on bank holiday Friday 8th May & Monday 25th May to help support and care for our patients during the coronavirus pandemic

 

Medication

Due to the recent Corona Virus outbreak, we are receiving a high volume of medication requests that we cannot process.

 

We are unable to issue prescriptions early or prescribe extra medication ‘just in case’.

 

We are unable to prescribe paracetamol just because you cannot buy this over the counter, or inhalers that are not part of your regular repeat medication.

 

We understand this is a worrying time for everyone but please be mindful that the pharmacies are under a lot of strain and are struggling, we do not want them to be like the supermarkets. If we were to issue medication ‘just in case’, this could result in people who do require it as part of their regular on-going medication, not being able to get it. If you do not need it, please do not order it.

 

If you have not set up electronic prescribing, please contact the surgery to set up a nominated pharmacy for us to send your medication to. You can order your repeat medication through your nominated pharmacy, please speak with them for more details. Additionally, you can order your repeat medication by downloading the NHS app on your smartphone or tablet. You can also register on Patient Access where you will also be able to order your repeat medication. Please do not come to the surgery to order your medications or collect prescriptions. Help us to help you stay safe.

 

Self-isolation

Please do not contact the surgery to ask whether you should self-isolate or not. If you believe or have been told that you or a member of your household is at risk and are unsure whether you should or shouldn’t self-isolate please visit https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus and follow the guidance set out. Unfortunately, we are unable to advise you on whether to self-isolate or not.

 

Appointments

Due to the unprecedented strain, please understand it may not be possible to keep your scheduled appointment. We will always endeavour to provide as much notice as possible should we have to cancel your upcoming appointment.

 

We are currently working on a telephone triage basis. If you need to speak to a doctor, please contact the surgery from 8am any given weekday morning and request a telephone appointment with a GP. We will always do our best to put you on the list the same day, however, due to increased demand, if we are unable to allocate you a telephone slot, you will need to try again the next day. Please be mindful we are receiving higher than usual call volumes and it may not always be possible to fulfil your request.

 

If you have a problem that the doctor needs to see, the doctor will triage you accordingly over the phone and only if deemed necessary and safe for yourselves and the practice staff, you may be offered a face-to-face appointment. Please be mindful that we are trying to limit patients coming into the surgery so it may be that you are asked to send in photographs of your problem or even partake in a video consultation.

 

For appointments with nurses or health care assistants, the above also applies.

 

We are working on a closed-door policy. When you arrive at the surgery, please use the intercom to liaise with a receptionist who will advise further. Please rest assured that the procedures we have in place are to protect both patients and staff alike. 

 

Respect

As usual, we operate a no tolerance policy. Please treat our staff with the respect they deserve. We understand the stress you are under; we feel it too. We are working hard to provide you with the best possible care, please be assured you will NOT be without your medication.

 

Online tools/advice

Please use online tools, NHS111 or contact your local pharmacy for advice or to self-manage where possible. Please visit the link featured at the top of our website for online consultations. Here you will find lots of useful information and advice and you can even submit enquiries to the surgery.
